P002 → Londonia audiobook

The launch of the new Londonia audiobook is now set for February 3rd, 2025!

If you have a Spotify Premium account you can access the whole book here. The total length is 14’20” so that fits within the 15-hour monthly allowance. There is also an audiobooks-only subscription available. Unfortunately the free version of Spotify (the one with the annoying ads) does not give you access to audiobooks.

Meanwhile there’s a little taste of what’s to come on this YouTube showreel.

And here’s Jake the Prophet’s introduction to the book with glossary of London-speak.

I've always liked the idea of acting, but other than playing a role in a couple of rather maverick pantomime productions, I've never trodden the boards. More recently, reading to audiences made me think of narrating my own work.

Immediately we started recording I absolutely loved it - acting with no worries about appearance or weird facial expressions; no frustrating other cast members as lines are forgotten or unintentionally re-written. It's intense work however, especially with a book such as Londonia where several characters often appear on one page with all their own accents and intonation to remember. I used my whole internal vocabulary of swear words, and invented several new ones.

Mark has composed new pieces inspired by the novel, including the piano pieces written for the printed book launch in London in 2020. He has collected sounds and kept a library of his own compositions and concerts over many years. Being able to delve into these aural archives has been inspiring for both of us; the result being a textured, beautiful and original soundscape that brings the Londonia world to all its multi-layered life.
